Paediatric Brain Tumour Awareness 2015

The Paediatric Brain Tumour Awareness Day 2015 fell on November 8th - a beautiful Sunday for the gathering of paediatric brain tumour patients, families, and supporters. The typical Sunday morning silence in KK Women's and Children's Hospital was broken with laughter and excitement as patients, families, and volunteers engage in arts & crafts booths, photo-taking, and many other games and info booths. In addition to the games and booths, a series of expert panel talks were held within the KKH auditorium. The talks covered various field and topics regarding brain tumours. Lastly, a 15 year-old boy Edwin Lee shared his personal insight and experience in battling cancer.

Our guest of honor Mdm Kay Kuok -  the executive chairman of Shangri-La Hotel Singapore, Chairman of National Healthcare Group, and Vice-chairman of the VIVA Foundation - made an appearance in support of raising paediatric brain tumour awareness. Our local Singapore TV celebrity - Mark Lee - also made a surprise appearance to show support for these kids.

Our main event was underway when 20 Lamborghinis pulled into KKH. The mass gathering of super sportcars was a rare sight! The kids and adults alike were ecstatic at the sight of the cars. Before the kids went on their joyrides, Mdm Kay Kuok gave her address: "To every child who deserves the right to live and achieve the full potential of his or her life, best of luck. To every mum and dad here today, please know you are not alone in your hopes and dreams for your children. To every child, know also that everyone here is rooting for you, cheering for you."

It was a fitting address in line with our vision of Paediatric Brain Tumour Awareness. The Paediatric Brain Tumour Awareness is here to support the patients and the families, and every year we hold this event to remind them that there is a community in Singapore where they can turn to for support and for help.
