We are a team of medical students from the Duke-NUS  Medical School. In partnership with the Brain Tumour Society, we aim to increase awareness of pediatric brain tumours in Singapore. We would like to launch the first Pediatric Brain Tumour Awareness (PBTA) day in Singapore.

Awareness and Family Support

The inaugural Singapore Pediatric Brain Tumour Awareness Day and Porsche Joyride aims to increase public understanding of pediatric brain tumours. Through this event, we hope to show patients that society cares about their struggles and raise awareness on the different resources and support groups available. When a child has a brain tumour, the entire family is affected. Emotions are raw, tensions run high and loved ones soon find themselves stretched beyond the breaking point. The PBTA aims to provide a safe environment for patients and loved ones to address their fears and concerns. Accurate information pertaining to diagnosis and treatment will be presented in a disarming and age-appropriate fashion. This event will also put families facing similar situations in contact with each other. They will be able to discuss the challenges faced, share advice and build friendships.

Porsche Joyride

Children who have been diagnosed with a brain tumour, who are undergoing treatment and those who are brain tumour survivors will be given car rides by a fleet of exotic cars from Porsche. This follows the Ride for Kids program that has been supporting the USA-based Pediatric Brain Tumour Foundation since 1984.

Education Day

A panel of experts will be assembled to speak on a variety of topics with the primary goal of raising awareness in the community. This will include education on medical treatments, recent clinical trials, supporting a child with pediatric brain tumour and obtaining financial assistance. Following this event, lunch will be provided where the panelists and volunteers can mingle with the families and introduce them to support groups.

Responsibilities

Duke-NUS will be spearheading the third annual PBTA. Our responsibilities include logistical planning, budgeting, marketing and publicity, awareness booths, speakers, food, crowd control and event apparel.

Come and join us at our special event. A fun-filled day for all with game booths and contest. We welcome everyone to our education posters, pediatric brain tumour talks by medical experts and personal stories shared by survivors of brain tumour cancers. Let our event leave you with touched moments and more knowledge about pediatric brain tumours.
